Comanche joining new conference
Starting with the 2023-24 school year Comanche Public Schools will be joining the Canadian Valley Conference. cross country/track, golf, and basketball will be the programs competing in the new conference. Softball, baseball, football, and wrestling compete in districts so participation in a conference is not feasible.
The CVC is made up of Pauls Valley, Purcell, Washington, Bridge Creek, Marlow, Lindsay. Comanche will replace Davis who is leaving the conference.
Athletic director Sean Husbbeck said one of the main reasons for the move is scheduling.
In basketball, the CVC member schools play each other home and away. Once the conference replaces Lexington which is also exiting, member schools’ schedules will be full eliminating problems finding teams their own size to play. Also, this move will cut down on the amount of travel for the programs.
The LCC and their member schools have always been great partners and competitors.
“We wish them the very best while looking forward to our new partnership with the CVC,” Hushbeck said.
