The Comanche cross country teams traveled to Madill last Saturday to compete in the Lake Country Conference (LCC) Cross Country Championship.

Comanche had a top 10 finisher in three of the four races that included high school and junior high teams.

“Our placing wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t that great either,” said Jason Miller, head coach. “It’s a tough conference though. All the schools we competed against are running schools. I was impressed with our times that are coming down and we’re staying competitive. I like our progress right now, I think we are on the right path.”

In the first event, Brycen Lassley finished ninth overall out of 86 runners to capture medal honors. Lassley, a sophomore, ran the 3.1-mile course in 18:12.26.

As a team, Comanche placed sixth with 188 points.

Hunter Lassley was second on the team in 65th place, followed by Gage Jessen in 70th, Jaxson Billingsley in 79th and David Tidwell in 85th.

In the girls’ high school race, Brilee Combs had the top finish for any Comanche runner, bringing home fourth place overall and leading the Lady Indians to a sixth place finish. Combs’ time was 13:49.75 over the two-mile course. Miller likes what he is seeing out of the sophomore.

“She’s getting up there and she’s not only getting up there, but its the girls that beat her last year that she is beating convincingly this year,” Miller said. “Brycen is the same way in the boys. In fact, he beat the regional runner-up from our class last year. Everybody’s times are improving, which is what you want to see.”

Karsynn Bowles came home with a 25th place finish in high school girls for second on the team.

She was followed by Cheyenne Hodges in 39th, Ava Foraker in 41st, Kilee Frye in 47th, Sarai Alvarez in 49th and Liliana Rocha in 58th.

The junior high boys had two top 18 finishers, led by an eighth place finish by Aiden Frye with a time of 12:55.94. Makisig Rogers was in 18th with a time of 13:36.67 over the two-mile course. They finished seventh as a team.

Next for Comanche were Kaiden Davoult in 54th, Hickory Anderson in 60th, Rhett Winton in 73rd, Rylan Shelby in 76th and Brenton Chisum in 78th.

Raelee Ellis finished 13th overall with a time of 11:06.06 over the 1.5-mile course to lead the Comanche Jr. High girls’ team.

She was followed by Stormy Troutman in 54th, Brailey Presgrove in 74th, Keeley Peacock in 81st, Emma Milburn in 83rd, Brenley Green in 85th and Paige Pollard in 89th.

The teams will next compete at a pre-state meet at Edmond Santa Fe on Sept. 24.
