Marlow blanks Comanche

by Todd Brooks

Everything that went right for Comanche in the first week against Mangum seemed to go wrong for the Indians in week two against Marlow.

The Outlaws spoiled the Indians home opener last Friday night with a 62-0 shutout. It was the largest point differential in the 80th meeting of the two teams.

Comanche quarterback Kooper Doucet missed the first couple of series due to an illness and Marlow revved up its offense, scoring three touchdowns each in the first, second and third quarters.

Marlow shut down the running game of Comanche, limiting the Indians to 19 yards on 23 carries. The Indians also committed five turnovers, one interception and four fumbles in the game.

Comanche did find some success in the air. Doucet was 13-of-20 for 134 yards with one interception and Gabe Diaz, who started the game in place of Doucet, was 2-of-3 for 12 yards.

Logan Bain had eight receptions for 31 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a broken ankle. Diaz had some big gains on the receiving end, gaining 94 yards on just four receptions.

Overall, Marlow had 343 yards of total offense to Comanche’s 165.

Marlow scored on a short run, a 23-yard pass and a 55-yard fumble return in the first quarter to sprint out to a 21-0 lead.

Two short touchdown runs and a 29-yard touchdown pass gave the Outlaws a 41-0 halftime lead.

The Indians did move the ball, but the turnovers killed several potential drives.

Another two short touchdown runs and a 31-yard fumble return in the third quarter ended the scoring in the game.

The Indians will be hosting another set of Indians this Friday when Plainview comes to town for the second of three straight home games for Comanche.
