Lady Indians pick up big district win over Lindsay

Inclement weather last week kept the Comanche softball team off the field but the lone game they did play was a big one as the Lady Indians stayed atop District 3A-2 by shutting out Lindsay, 3-0.
It was a good defensive and pitching effort from both teams, but it would be Comanche that would get the timely hits and take advantage of Lindsay miscues.
Comanche pitchers Josey Harris and Kamrey Rendon combined for the shutout. Harris found herself in a bit of trouble with one out in the top of the third. She gave up a single and then hit a batter. Comanche coach Aaron Minor brought in Rendon to finish the inning and she coaxed the next batter into an inning-ending double play on a ball to shortstop Gracee Miller to get out of the jam.
The Lady Indians caught a break in the bottom of the third. Raylee Chaney led off the inning with a single and then advanced to second on an error. Two batters later, Mykayla Slovak’s ground ball to second base was mishandled, allowing Chaney to score.
In the top of the fourth, the Leopardettes put together a two-out rally, loading the bases on an error and two singles. Once again, however, Rendon got out of the inning unscathed on a groundout to third baseman Brighton O’Connor for the final out.
In the bottom of the fourth, Comanche caught another break when Harris scored from third on a dropped third strike during Chaney’s at-bat.
In the top of the sixth, Comanche got a stellar defensive play from Harris, who had moved to second base. With one out, B. Cline hit a hard line drive to the left of Harris, who leaped and snagged the ball out of the air to rob the batter of a least a single, for the second out. Harris then made another good play for the third out in the inning.
Comanche designated hitter Aspen Loafman then added an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth when she took a 1-0 pitch over the right field fence for a solo home run to push the Lady Indians’ lead to 3-0.
Lindsay got one runner on in the top of the seventh on a one-out error, but Rendon retired the next two batters to preserve the shutout.
Loafman and Chaney went 2-for-3 to lead Comanche at the plate. Slovak and Harris had the only other hits.
Rendon closed out the final 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits, no runs, with two strikeouts and no walks. Harris gave up three hits, struck out one and walked three.
Through Labor Day, Comanche is 15-6 overall and 6-0 in District 3A-2 play.
