Busy week for Lady Indians' softball
The Comanche Lady Indians had a busy week, despite having a rain out of a district game with Davis on Monday. The Lady Indians picked up a key district win and then took on some larger schools at a tournament in Shawnee.
Last Wednesday, Comanche stayed unbeaten in district play with a 5-4 win at Kingston to improve to 7-0 in the district and to retain sole possession of first place.
After giving up a run in the bottom of the first, Comanche scored five runs in the top of the third to take the lead and then held on the rest of the way to get the win.
In the five-run third, Brighton O’Connor and Jentry Whaley got RBI doubles and Bre Gill had a two-run triple.
O’Connor finished the game going 3-for-3. Josey Harris went 2-for-3 with Gill and Whaley picking up the other hits.
Harris started the game on the mound for Comanche to pick up the win. She went five innings with Kamrey Rendon picking up the save by throwing scoreless sixth and seventh innings.
Harris had nine strikeouts in the game with only two walks.
Thursday
Edmond Memorial 9
Comanche 4
Edmond Memorial bolted out to 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and the Lady Indians were never able to catch back up.
Trailing 5-0 going into the top of the third, Comanche scored three runs to cut the lead to 5-3, but it would be as close as the Lady Indians would get.
Edmond Memorial went on to build a 9-3 lead before Comanche scored its final run in the top of the sixth inning.
The Lady Indians managed just one hit in the game, an RBI double by Bre Gill, who drove in three runs in the game.
Kamrey Rendon took the loss on the mound.
Friday
Durant 3
Comanche 0
The Lady Indians could not string together enough hits and Durant scored twice in the third and once in the sixth to get the win.
Mykayla Slovak and Josey Harris led the Lady Indians at the plate by going 2-for3. Brighton O’Connor picked up the only other hit for the Lady Indians.
Deer Creek 10
Comanche 4
The Lady Indians suffered their third straight loss of the festival, falling to Deer Creek.
Comanche scored four runs in the top of the second to take the lead, but it would be the only runs for the Lady Indians.
Deer Creek scored twice in the bottom of the second and then broke the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the third.
Josey Harris and Raylee Chaney had doubles in the game with Chaney collecting a couple of RBI. Brighton O’Connor, Bre Gill, Jentry Whaley, Ayli Minor and Kamrey Rendon all had hits in the game.
Saturday
Comanche 9
Claremore 0
The Lady Indians snapped out of their three-game skid in a big way with a shutout of Claremore. Comanche scored four runs in the top of the third and then went on to cruise from there.
Nine Comanche players got hits in the game. Brighton O’Connor, Gracee Miller, Jentry Whaley and Ayli Minor all had doubles in the contest. Brighton O’Connor, Whaley and Minor each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Mykayla Slovak, Bre Gill, Josey Harris and Raylee Chaney each had a hit.
Kamrey Rendon picked up the win on the mound, surrendering just two hits in the game while striking out five and walking none.
