Lady Indians off to hot start

After dropping their season opener against Plainview, 10-2, the Comanche softball team has gone on a tear, winning seven straight games through Monday, six of which have been by shutout.
The Lady Indians have outscored their opponents 54-3 during the run.
The streak started with a 9-0 win over Elgin in the home opener last Tuesday with a 9-0 victory.
The Lady Indians built a 4-0 lead through the first three innings before putting the game away in the bottom of the fifth with five runs to get the win.
Comanche had nine hits in the game, led by senior Brighton O’Connor, who went 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in one run. Raylee Chaney and Jentry Whaley both went 2-for-3 with Whaley getting a double.
Josey Harris picked up the win on the mound for Comanche, pitching a complete game three-hit shutout. She struck out four and walked three.
The Lady Indians then traveled to El Reno for a tournament where they swept all four of their games to win the title. They opened with a 6-0 win over Lawton Eisenhower, followed by wins over Shawnee, Piedmont J.V. and Newcastle.
Against Lawton Ike, Kamrey Rendon tossed a two-hit shutout on the mound. She struck out four and walked two.
Comanche had just four hits in the game, but scored three runs in the first inning followed by one run each over the next three innings to pull ahead.
Mykayla Slovak went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a double to lead the Lady Indians at the plate. O’Connor also had a double in a 1-for-3 performance. Josey Harris went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
In their second game last Friday, the Lady Indians got a 2-0 shutout of Shawnee.
It was a pitcher’s duel as Harris struck out 11 in the shutout.
Comanche had two hits in the game and scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings.
In the fourth inning, Gracee Miller scored on an error and in the fifth inning, Slovak doubled in base runner Jaelyn Reed for the second and final run of the game.
On Saturday, Comanche opened with a 9-3 win over the Piedmont J.V. The Lady Indians took control early, taking a 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning and then adding their final two runs in the top of the fourth. Piedmont scored once in the third inning and twice in the fourth inning.
The Lady Indians pounded out eight hits in the game, including home runs by O’Connor and Kamrey Rendon. Bre Gill and Slovak each had a double. Gill was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Rendon was the winning pitcher. She gave up three hits and no earned runs in three innings of work.
In their final game of the tournament, Comanche defeated Newcastle, 4-0.
O’Connor had a home run and a double in the contest. She and Slovak went 2-for-2 in the game.
Comanche took the lead with three runs in the third and one more in the fourth.
Three Comanche pitchers combined for the shutout with Harris, Whaley and Grace Kinkade pitching.
On Monday, the Lady Indians picked up their first district wins of the season with a pair of 12-0 wins over visiting Community Christian.
Rendon and Chloey Kinkade got the shutout in the first game while Whaley and Harris got the shutout in the second game.
Comanche had seven hits in the first game, led by Aspen Loafman who went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Ayli Minor, Harris, Raylee Chaney and Roebuck all had hits in the game.
In the second game, Gill went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI to lead Comanche offensively. The Lady Indians scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second and four in the third to win by mercy rule.
Loafman had a double in the contest.
The Lady Indians will be back on the road this weekend for a tournament at Perry and then have a big district game at Kingston next Monday.
