News from the Chamber 7-21-22

by Rene Wood

This is my first column so let me start by introducing myself.

My name is Rene Wood. I am this year’s Chamber of Commerce president and owner of The Buzzards Nest here in Comanche. I moved here from Texas almost two years ago. My mother, Diane Gann, retired from the store to concentrate on her estate sales business.

The current Chamber of Commerce officers are: Rene Wood, president; Jade Smith, vice president; Lisa Ralls, secretary; Nita Mitchell, treasurer; Jeanne McGowen, membership promotions.

I would like to thank everyone who had anything to do with the 4th of July fireworks. They were amazing. We are currently raising money for next year’s fireworks.

Our membership drive started July 1. Please become an active member in the community and sign up. You can contact Jeanne McGowen or me at The Buzzards Nest.

I also want to stress that we support our local businesses and shop local. We have a great community, so let’s grow.

Dollar General finally broke ground, more updates coming soon. I know everyone is excited for a new store.

We would like to welcome Studio 81 to town. Have you seen the building? It looks amazing.

Our next big event is the Fall Festival scheduled for Oct. 29. We need the community’s help to secure the band. Hodges Photography donated $100 toward to $1,000 needed. Trey Clinkenbeard’s band (Old 81 Band) will be performing this year. Let’s pull together and make this year’s Fall Festival Great.

This is going to be a weekly column so look for my column next week.
