Good weekend for Comanche

The Comanche baseball team won three out of four games at a spring break tournament in Calumet.

The Indians are 8-2 overall heading into action this week. Monday and Tuesday’s games were rained out.They will be made up on April 16 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Thursday

Comanche 5,

El Reno 3

The Indians broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth when Gunner King drove in Bryson Evans on an RBI single. Comanche added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth, including an RBI single by Colby Shannon that scored Owen Bigford.

Brady Dobbins went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead Comanche at the plate. Evans, King, Gabe Diaz, Bigford and Shannon all had a hit. Bigford and Evans had doubles.

Evans was the winning pitcher, throwing the final three innings, giving up two hits and striking out four.

Warner 6,

Comanche 2

The Indians took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Warner answered with two in the top of the second and led from that point on. Comanche cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth, but Warner put the game away with two runs in the top of the seventh.

Gabe Diaz led Comanche at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and a run scored. Bryson Evans also homered in the game and went 1-for-4.Gunner King was 1-for-4 with a double. Owen Bigford and Dillon Ellis were 1-for-3.

Lucas Gordon was the losing pitcher, throwing five innings, giving up five hits and four runs.

Friday

Comanche 8,

Vici 4

The Indians scored at least one run in the first five innings on their way to the win.

Comanche scored three runs in the top of the first to take the lead and held on for the rest of the way.

Landon Steele had a big game for the Indians, driving in four runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. His two-RBI double to right field in the first inning got the Indians on the scoreboard. Owen Bigford drove in the third run of the first inning on a single.

Vici cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth with three runs, but Comanche answered with two more runs in the top of the fifth.

Bigford and Brady Dobbins each had two hits. Colby Shannon, Bryson Evans, Gunner King and Ian Essex all had a hit. Essex drove in two runs and Shannon had a double.

Essex was the winning pitcher, giving up one earned run on two hits in four innings. He also struck out seven.

Comanche 8,

Calumet 6

After trailing most of the game, the Indians scored five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead and then added two more runs in the seventh to get the win.

As a team, Comanche stole nine bases in the game, including three by Dillon Ellis, who also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Bryson Evans, Gunner King, Landon Steele and Ian Essex all had a hit in the game.

Owen Bigford came in relief and picked up the win, giving up no hits over five innings and striking out eight.
