Comanche girls one win away from state tournament
Playing their fourth game in five days did not slow down the Comanche Lady Indians as they pulled away from Kingston in the fourth quarter to move within a win of advancing to the state final with a 57-46 victory.
The game was tight throughout with 15 ties and nine lead changes, but near-perfect shooting by the Lady Indians in the final quarter proved to be the difference as they advanced to the area tournament consolation finals. They will face the loser of tonight's Bethel/Jones game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The winner goes to the state tournament, while the loser's season will be over.
On Thursday, Comanche led from start to finish in a win over Prague that kept their season alive.
The last time Comanche and Kingston met in February, the Lady Indians were just 1-of-14 from the three-point line. Kylie Roden made sure the Lady Indians would not have the same outcome this time around in Ada as she knocked down five on her way to a 19-point game.
The game was tied at 25-all at halftime and 34-all at the end of the third quarter. Comanche, though, would outscore Kingston, 23-12 in the final quarter, including going 15-of-16 from the free-throw line. They had been 1-for-5 through the first three quarters.
Gracee Miller scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in the quarter, including going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Following Miller and Roden in scoring were Caity Blair with eight points and Kenley Lemons and Kynli Morris with five each.
Thursday
Comanche 43, Prague 29
The Lady Indians jumped out to a 9-2 lead and never allowed Prague closer than four points the rest of the way in their first-round area win.
Comanche led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter and then both defenses stepped up in the second quarter with the teams combining for 10 total points.
Prague could not do much to slow down Gracee Miller, however. The junior guard scored 29 of her team's 43 points in the contest. She scored whether she shot from the outside, mid-range, or drove to the basket.
At the end of the third quarter, Comanche had built its lead to double-digits, taking a 29-17 advantage into the final quarter. The Lady Indians never allowed the Lady Red Devils to make a run at them in the fourth quarter, answering every basket that Prague got in the final quarter.
Kenley Lemons was second on the team for Comanche with five points, followed by Caity Blair with four, Kylie Roden with three and Kynli Morris with two.
