Golf season gets underway

The Comanche High School golf team opened their season with a third-place team finish at the Weatherford Prairie West golf course last week. The Indians had a team score of 372.

The team was led by Bailor Harris, who carded an 88, followed closely behind by Kooper Doucet with a 90. Next was Cade White with a 92. Gunnor Yates had a 102 and Lake Epperson had a 112.

On the girls side, Aspen Loafman shot a 119 at the Class 3A State Preview at Westwood Golf Course in Norman.

Comanche golf coach Sean Hushbeck said the golf program has inherited the old gym at Meridian that had been used most recently as a baseball fieldhouse.

“It will allow us to get practice in when the weather is bad,” Hushbeck said.

The program is trying to raise $36,000 to help convert the gym to a golf facility which will include a putting green and a golf driver simulator among other things.

Hushbeck said it will help the program get better since there are few naturally-gifted golfers and it will allow the team to get in some much-needed practice, allowing the golfers to improve their game.

Plans are in the works for a golf tournament fundraiser for the program and some other fundraisers will be held in order to raise the needed funds.
