Regina Apple

Regina Apple, of Comanche, Oklahoma, stepped into heaven on Monday, April 20th, 2026, one day after her 75th birthday.  She fought a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  
Regina Colleen Sorrell was born on April 19, 1951, in Dumas, Texas, to Bill and Lavonne Sorrell. She graduated from Comanche High School in 1969, earning the distinction of salutatorian of her class. She married Joel Apple on February 2, 1973.  Their anniversary falling on Groundhog Day gave them lots of laughs. She graduated from Cameron University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1988.  She was a much beloved third grade teacher at Waurika Elementary School for many years. 
Regina was a lifelong member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She found great joy in singing and playing the piano during worship services. She loved teaching children, whether it was vacation bible school, Sunday school, or in the classroom.  She always had a way with words and loved to write and rewrite plays for school and church ensuring that each child felt like they were a vital part of the production. Regina found great joy in flowers and gardening and was an active member of the Comanche Garden Club.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were deeply loved and faithfully lifted up in prayer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Apple; parents, Bill and Lavonne Sorrell; sister-in-law Gina Sorrell; and sister-in-law Barbara Hartley.
She is survived by her son, Shane Apple; grandson, Cooper Apple and his children: Kezia, Godrick, Reagen, and Crystal; grandson, Dalton Apple and fiancé Camree and their children: Kenlan, Macklynn, and Khelani; brother, David Sorrell; sister, Rosalind Burrough and her husband Steve; sister, Robin Cain and her husband Chris; brother-in-law, Leland Hartley; sister-in-law, Jackie Harris and her husband Charles; sister-in-law, Carol Franklin and her husband Dennis; and brother-in-law, Randy Apple and his wife Vicky; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
The family received visitors 0n Friday, April 24, at Whitt Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 pm.
 Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Patterson Avenue Baptist Church in Comanche, Oklahoma with Pastor Dan Standifer officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery north of Comanche.
