Basketball teams have successful tournament

The Comanche basketball teams had a successful tournament at the Wynnewood Invitational last week with the girls bringing home third place and the boys winning the consolation bracket.
Raelee Ellis was named all-tournament for the girls and Easton Bowen was named all-tournament for the boys.

Comanche jumped out early and then cruised the rest of the way to win the consolation bracket.
The Indians used balanced scoring in the first quarter with seven players recording points on their way to an 18-6 lead at the end of the quarter. They continued to dominate in the second, taking a 37-18 halftime lead.
The scoring pace slowed down in the second half, but the Indians stayed comfortably ahead.

The teams were tied at 24-all at halftime before Comanche opened up a slight lead in the third and then put the game away in the fourth.
The Lady Indians had three three-pointers in the third quarter on their way to 21 points and a 45-40 lead heading into the final quarter.
Comanche then limited Wynnewood to seven points in the final quarter as they extended their lead. Raelee Ellis was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the quarter.

Easton Bowen scored 13 of his 23 points in the first quarter to push Comanche out front, where they would remain the rest of the game.
Comanche led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter and then had a 36-26 halftime lead.
The third quarter belonged to Comanche as they outscored Lexington 19-8 to take a commanding lead into the final quarter.

The game stayed close throughout with Bridge Creek taking a 24-19 halftime lead and then maintaining it the rest of the way. Comanche had cut the lead to 37-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Thursday

The Plainview Indians got some well-timed baskets to keep Comanche at bay and pull away in the second half for a 65-47 win.
There were two lead changes and a tie in the first quarter before Plainview went on a 7-0 run. They would never trail again.
After falling behind 20-12 to open the second quarter, Comanche went on a 7-0 run with baskets by Cooper Epperson, Johnny Alvarez and Easton Bowen to cut the lead to 20-19 at the 6:04 mark.
Plainview’s Collin Ladd scored his only points of the game on a three-pointer that broke up the run and Comanche would get no closer. Comanche threatened again later in the quarter cutting the lead to two, but Plainview would close out the final 2:30 minutes of the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 36-27 halftime lead.
Once Plainview got the lead to double digits in the third quarter, Comanche was never able to get it back to single digits and Plainview went on to claim the win.

Raelee Ellis’ seven straight points in the third quarter gave the Comanche girls the boost they needed on their way to a 39-32 win over Davis in the first round of the Wynnewood Invitational on Thursday afternoon.
Ellis had scored just five points in the first half, but found her groove in the second half on her way to a game-high 20-point performance.
It was a slow start by both teams with Comanche holding a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams got their offenses going in the second quarter. There were four lead changes before the Lady Indians took a 16-15 halftime lead.
Davis opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, but Ellis’ seven points and a free throw by Drai Sparks put Comanche up 24-18.
The Lady Wolves would make it interesting, scoring the final five points of the third quarter to cut the Comanche lead to 27-24.
Davis would get a free throw to open the fourth to cut the lead to 27-25, but the Lady Wolves would get no closer as Comanche went on a 8-2 run to push the lead to 35-27. Davis would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
It was a second straight win for the Lady Indians (2-2), who defeated Little Axe on Tuesday.
