Billie Eugene 'Bill' Chisum

Billie Eugene “Bill” Chisum, age 88, of Waurika, peacefully passed away at his home in Waurika, on Wednesday evening, Nov. 5, 2025. He was 88 years old. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Waurika First Christian Church, with Bryce Bohot and Brad Scott officiating, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hastings Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be Monday, Nov. 10, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bill was born April 27, 1937, near Empire, to J.B. and Opal (Hughes) Chisum. He and Helen Dunn were united in marriage on March 7, 1964, in Duncan. Bill worked in the oilfield most of his life, starting after the 8th grade, including years of offshore drilling for Zapata Oil. After an injury, he was forced to retire; however, that did not slow him down. He loved to piddle around and enjoyed gardening. He loved trying to keep his grandchildren and great-grandchildren busy. He took great pride in being called “Pa”. He considered everyone a friend, having never met a stranger. Over the years, he raised a lot of kids other than his own. He fed a lot of bullfighters over the years, his door was always open, and the coffee was always hot.
He is survived by his wife Helen, of the home; nine children: Billy Chisum and wife Judy, Duncan, OK; Larry Joe Crowell and wife Andrea, Marlow, OK; Wayne Chisum, Comanche, OK; Tracie Dunn and Ron Weatherly, Waurika; Amy Bandy, Meridian; Sammy Chisum and wife Jenny, Empire; Randy Vess, Conroe, Texas; Donny Vess and wife Regina, Moore; and Casey Vess and wife Carrie, Comanche; one brother, Don Chisum and wife Glenda, Duncan; a sister, Nancy Zumwalt, Del City; and a sister-in-law, Sue Chisum, Empire; 23 grandchildren: Jessie Chisum, Lijah Chisum, Colton Crowell and wife Cindy, Bayli Lucas and husband Matt, Andrew Wollenberg, Courtney Fish and husband Stephen, Emmalee Chisum and Houston, Madison Whittington and husband Austin, Tessa Williams and husband Sean, Jace Dunn and wife Rebecca, Kyote Dunn, Cache Dunn, and Skylar Adams, Shy Bandy and wife Tanna, Billy Bandy and Cassidy, Amber Vess, Gary Vess, Tori Vess, Mackayla Vess, Annabelle Vess, Holden Vess, Abigail ess, Angela Allen, and Michael Ellage; also 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Bill had several special friends that he considered family, they are Boston Smith, Bobbie Crowder, Mercedes Brown, John Callahan, Lester Ford, and Charlie Pruitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Opal Chisum; a daughter, Sandra Kay; a great grandchild, Wesley Whittington; a great great grandchild, Elaine Mayes; two son in laws, Rex Dunn and Keith Bandy; two brother, Sam Chisum and Wayne Chisum; and a sister Pearlie Beck.
