The Comanche Board of Education met Oct. 14, approving several new hires and discussing a range of district business, from building repairs to curriculum changes.
Superintendent Julie Bills announced the hiring of Kat Anderson as a paraprofessional, Steve Dunham as a Homeless Outreach Specialist and Leslie McGuire as an Amira Reading Instructor. The board also approved the Residency Committee for certified and adjunct teachers.
Bills reported on the finalization of outstanding bond projects and drainage projects. She also informed the board that the high school basketball gym roof, which was damaged by hail in 2022, will require repairs. The district is working with the insurance company on the claim.
The board also discussed potential security upgrades, including Verkada bus cameras, vape detectors and new door security equipment.
In curriculum matters, the board approved several Red River Technology Center Academy classes for Advanced Placement credit, including courses in computer technology, science and math. Additionally, the board approved a list of other courses for Honors Weight.
Among other items, the board approved Policy FEG regarding student transfers for children of active-duty military members and was updated on the upcoming school board elections. Seat 1, currently held by Amy Shelby, will be open for the next election.
