City council votes to renew city manager's contract

The Comanche City Council voted to extend the contract of city manager Wayne McCasland another year and give him a five percent raise at its meeting on Oct. 14.
The council went into executive session for an hour before returning to open session.
It was a 4-0 unanimous vote to pass the measure. Council member Dennis McQuinn was not present.
The executive session was the last matter on the agenda of three meetings, which also included the Land Management Authority and the Public Works Authority (PWA).
In the land management meeting, the trustees voted to not accept a bid of $500 for property at 118 Oak Main.
They rejected a similar item during the PWA meeting. This time they rejected a bid for $500 for two lots at 112 Oak Main.
The trustees also voted to purchase $5,800 worth of trees to satisfy the Comanche green Infrastructure Project . The project is in compliance with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry.
The city is receiving an inflation reduction act grant from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The trees will be planted at Jackson Park and the community garden next to the Senior Nutrition Center.
During the city manager’s report, McCasland informed the board that power rates from the SWPA will stay the same until Sept. 2027. He also said the purchase of a new pump for the sewer and lift station was needed with an estimated cost of around $20,000.
A healthy Stephens County requires great community news.
