Cross country runs at Velma meet

Cross country teams from Comanche and Grandview schools saw several strong individual and team performances across all divisions at the Velma Cross Country meet on Sept. 30.
The Comanche Junior High Girls posted the highest team finish of the day, securing third place among 162 runners. Their effort was spearheaded by top-10 finishes from Hallie Ramsey (6th, 10:36.76) and Kaidence Cisneroz (9th, 10:38.77). They were backed by Rylee Ellis (36th, 11:45.21), Kaylee Stengle (52nd, 12:24.34), Emma Wendt (60th, 12:38.59), Dawn Rightmire (66th, 12:53.29), Cali Jessen (70th, 13:07.16), Ellie Englishbee (78th, 13:35.96), Elizabeth Jackson (99th, 14:18.77), Cayley Baldwin (102nd, 14:31.37), Lyla Pipkin (107th, 15:02.27), and Laylah Bell (111th, 15:27.55).
High School and Junior High Results
The Comanche High School Girls placed seventh as a team among 88 runners. Ellie Schreiner led the squad, finishing 54th (15:58.85), closely followed by Taylor Frye (57th, 16:09.51). Other contributing runners included Kadence Billy (72nd, 18:21.62), Kendra Billy (77th, 20:04.92), Hailey Roy (79th, 20:20.31), and Jordan Steinach-Smith (23:51.21).
The Comanche Junior High Boys secured a fourth-place team finish. Brody Combs was the highest finisher for the school in the meet, taking fifth place (12:24.52). The team scoring was bolstered by James Taylor (22nd, 13:31.38), Quentin Selby (23rd, 13:34.04), Kaden Adams (49th, 14:44.91), Brantley Jennings (59th, 15:21.01), Maeson Scott (65th, 15:35.79), Brayden Brown (67th, 15:40.14), and Andrew Murrell (93rd, 17:52.95).
In the 5K High School Boys race, Comanche placed ninth as a team. Makisig Rogers delivered a solid effort, finishing 15th overall with a time of 19:15.59. Other Indian finishers included Hayden Harget (64th, 23:03.12), Kasyn Doss (71st, 23:31.11), Ayden Jones (73rd, 23:47.99), Christian Parris (75th, 23:58.88), Kagan White (80th, 24:17.35), and Payton Crowder (94th, 28:34.16).
For Grandview Junior High Boys, Alex Pasillas finished 79th (16:34.65), while Loralei Merritt finished 162nd in the Junior High Girls race.
Elementary Division Highlights
Grandview competed in the Elementary division, with both the girls and boys teams finishing sixth as a team.
The Grandview Elementary Girls were led by a solid run from Jaylee Berryhill, who finished second overall (7:04.48). She was followed by Kynlee Sullivan (20th, 7:42.05), Makayla Moore (48th, 8:47.86), Blaklie Berry (50th, 8:52.07), Laycie Williams (53rd, 8:58.17), Zoey Farrington (58th, 9:08.44), Makenna Moore (61st, 9:19.02), Kayde Bauch (73rd, 10:52.56), Ella Sullivan (77th, 11:03.88), Lilly Dover (79th, 11:08.70), Bishop Pelkey (87th, 12:10.35), and Tucker Farrington (88th, 12:14.25).
The Grandview Elementary Boys were paced by Jace Neift, who finished 17th (6:56.26). Other runners for the team included Chance Lynch (36th, 7:35.42), Ayden Drake (50th, 8:03.03), Tanner Williams (56th, 8:37.85), Michael Orr (61st, 9:31.55), Thomas Williams (67th, 10:21.17), and Cavin Sullivan (70th, 11:23.63).
Waylon Roy was the lone runner for the Comanche Elementary Boys, finishing 43rd with a time of 7:44.07.
