Dan D. Davis
September 29, 2025

Once a Marine, always a Marine – and Dan D. Davis would make sure you knew it. Dan, 76, of Comanche, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at his home. Funeral services are held Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Comanche Funeral Home with interment at Fort Sill National Cemetery with Military Honors.
Dan was born Sept. 2, 1949, in Long Beach, Calif., to Perry S. and Elizabeth (Warren) Davis. He grew up moving often, excelling in both baseball and football before attending USC on a football scholarship. In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam as an Infantry Assaultman and earning two Purple Hearts along with many other commendations. “His Boys” were lost, but never forgotten.
On Dec. 18, 1974, he married Linda Sladek in Albuquerque, NM. Together they shared more than 50 years of marriage, raising five children and building a life that carried them from New Mexico to Colorado, and eventually to Comanche. Dan spent over 40 years in the insurance and financial investment field, founding Davis America and Rocky Mountain Life.
Dan’s dedication didn’t stop with business. He was a tireless advocate for veterans and social organizations, active in AMVETS, Elks, American Legion, Masons, VFW, and Vietnam Veterans of America. He devoted much of his later life to helping fellow veterans secure their earned benefits and became a fierce advocate for suicide prevention and mental health awareness, a cause close to his heart.
Dan was known for his boisterous personality, firm handshake, quick wit, love of family gatherings, and getting together with friends over a drink. He never met a stranger, loved to laugh, made friends everywhere he went, and believed in showing up for people in both the good times and the not-so-good.
He is survived by his wife Linda Davis; children Micah (Heather), Jeremy (Jennifer), Jessika (Justin), and Daniel II (Qing); lively collection of nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom can tell a decent (if slightly cleaner) “Dan joke”. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jefferson Hondo, granddaughter Maddie Grace, two brothers, and a sister.
In lieu of flowers, tax deductible memorial contributions may be made to Amvets Post 11, 126 South 10th, Duncan, OK 73533.
In Dan’s words, “It’s never goodbye—it’s always see you later.”
