Shaver leads Empire to win

Empire quarterback Bryce Shaver ran for four touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Empire Bulldogs to a 36-28 home win over Wetumka last Friday.
The win was also number 100 in the coaching career of Empire head coach Brant Hayes.
Shaver scored on a 49-yard run and a 19-yard run in the first quarter. He added two more scores in the second quarter on a 64-yard run and a 34-yard touchdown pass to Francisco Garcia.
Empire successfully made three of four attempts at two-point conversions. Garcia scored one on a run, Shaver passed to Bayleen Jackson for another and Jorge Torres ran in the final two-point attempt in the half.
Shaver scored his final touchdown of the night on a three-yard run in the third quarter.
Shaver finished the game with 157 yards on 14 carries. He was 6-of-11 passing for 53 yards.
Johnny McNair rushed six times for 30 yards and Cale Porter had two carries for minus one yard.
Garcia had one reception for 34 yards with a touchdown. Porter had three receptions for 13 yards. McNair had one catch for four yards and Cutter Rochell had one reception for two yards.
It was good rebound game for the Bulldogs, who suffered their first loss of the season the week before at Cyril. The Bulldogs moved to 3-1 on the season and have a bye week this week. They travel to Alex on Oct. 3 for the final non-district game.
