Comanche will be a hub of activity next week as the school revs up for homecoming.
On Thursday, the homecoming parade will take place, with classes and clubs competing for bragging rights with float competitions.
The route is a little different than previous years. In order to not to delay traffic on Highway 81, the parade is going to start at First Baptist Church of Comanche (315) Oak Main. From there it will go west along Highway 53 to the end of the parade at the high school.
After the parade, there will be a bonfire at the Field of Dreams. The parade will start at 6:30 p.m.
“We’re going to ask everybody to park thier floats or trailers on the south side parkling lot down 4th Street,” said Jack Francis, student council advisor.
On Friday, a new feature will be the alumni chili cookoff at the commons area of the high school beginning at 5 p.m.
“This will give a chance for the alumni to see the new area of the high school that they might not have seen yet,” Franis said..
Tickets for the chili cookoff will be $5 each. The money will go towards scholarships.
On Monday, Sept. 29, the student council will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to kick a field goal in an event called “Homecoming Got Kicked Up a Notch” at halftime of the game against Coalgate on Friday.
A winner will be drawn just before the field goal attempt.
“The winner gets a goodie bag or basket and they also get a chance to kick a field goal, and if they make it, they get $50 on top of the goodie bag,” said Bre Gill, student council president.
The goodie bags are coming from Coaches’ Corner.
“This year, our student council wants to take it up another notch,” Francis said. “We will be more visible and go out into the community more. We want to build a strong relationship with our alumni.”
Cooper Epperson is the student council vice president. Francis said there are 30 total student council members.
Also new this year, the student council is trying out an Alumni Homecoming Queen. They are asking people to vote for homecoming courts for alumni who graduated with a five at the end of their year, like 2005 or 1995. The courts will be announced during the football game. Voting will take place in the commons area during the kickoff.
