September 24, 2025

Johnie W. “Daddio” Smith, a longtime resident of Comanche, peacefully passed from this life into his heavenly home on Sunday morning, September 21, 2025, at his home. He was 89 years old. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25. at 1 p.m. at Ray Of Hope Church, with Pastor Mike McCord and Pastor Matt Chambers officiating, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. The family will be receiving guests on Wednesday evening, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Johnie was born September 13, 1936, in Anadarko, OK to Wayne and Velma (Bell) Smith. He graduated from Velma High School. On August 18, 1958, he and Fay Rice were united in marriage in Duncan. Johnie was a member of Ray Of Hope Church, where he served as an Elder for over 30 years. He loved gardening, both vegetables and flowers, especially red roses. Johnie took GREAT pleasure in having a huge vegetable garden for many, many years, from which he would supply family and friends with fresh produce. Also, secretly, he was always in competition with his mother-in-law, Virgie Rice, about who had the best garden. Out of respect, we will forgo revealing the results of those competitions. Johnie’s greatest joy came from attending his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids' sporting events and activities. Johnie love watching them play football, play softball, wrestle, rope calves, ride bulls & broncs, and run barrels & poles.
He is survived by his wife, Fay, of the home; two children: LaDonna Tevebaugh and husband Steve of Comanche, and Randy Smith and wife Mary of Duncan. Four grandchildren: Amanda Parker and husband Leland of Duncan; Jacob Smith and wife Amy of Charlotte, NC; Sam Smith and wife Lyssa of Oklahoma City; and Dustin Tevebaugh of Comanche; nine great-grandchildren: Ephraim Smith, Abra Smith, Georgiana “Gigi” Smith, Evelyn “Evie” Smith, Kylee Delaney, KayLynn “KK” Delaney, Wesson Parker, Charlcie Woods and husband Zack, Kaylin Missey and husband Devin; a great-great grandchild Hensley Missey; and one soon to be born great grandson; sisters: Anita Soto and Earline King; two sisters in law: Rebecca Rice and Aline McAlister; and many nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.
Johnie was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Velma Smith; one brother, Charlie Smith; a sister, Sue Matthews; his mother-in-law, Virgie Rice; and two brothers in law: Harril Rice and Roger McAlister
