Cross country opens season

The Comanche cross country teams got their season underway in Duncan last Saturday morning with the boys and girls getting some excellent showings in the early part of the season. 
Comanche is relying on youth this year on the girls’ side. Four of the five runners for Comanche that ran Saturday were freshmen and the other was a sophomore.
Hayliee Roy led Comanche in the 12-person Small School field with a fifth-place finish with a time of 16:56 over the two-mile course. Kadence Billy finished eighth (18:54.70), Kendra Billy took ninth (21:10.66); Zoe Payes finished 10th (22:48.31) and Jordan Steinbach-Smith was 12th (26:01.54).
In high school boys, the Indians placed sixth. Comanche had two top 15 finishes with Aidan Frye leading the way in ninth place overall (19:43.74) in the 5k race and Makisig Rogers was 15th (20:59.88). Hayden Harget was 42nd (23:52.83), followed by Kagen White in 49th (25:34.12), Kasyn Doss in 53rd (26:3.57), Christian Parris (27:07.60) was in 56th and Erik Roy (29:54.40) was in 65th.
In junior high boys, Brody Combs had an excellent run with a second-place overall finish over the 1.5-mile course with a time of 10:39.19. Combs was one of three Comanche runners to finish in the top 10. James Taylor was fourth (11:32.26) and Quentin Selby was sixth (11:46.27). They were followed by Kaden Adams in 13th (12:27.07), Brantley Jennings in 17th (13:29.41), Brayden Brown in 18th (13:45.82) and Flynn Wright in 23rd (15:41.29).
In girls’ junior high, Comanche took first, led by three top-five finishes. Kaidence Cisneroz was first overall (11:41.47), followed by Hallie Ramsey in third (12:26.71) and Kaylee Stengel in fifth (12:44.87). Dawn Rightmire was 11th (13:36.35), Rylee Ellis was 12th (13:40.27), Emma Wendt was 16th (14:43) and Ellie Englishbee was 18th (15:30.98).
