Comanche football gets practice started with a bang

by Todd Brooks

The Comanche football team held its third annual Midnight Madness practice and it seems to be getting better every year, according to head coach Gary Robinson.
It was a community affair with games and booths available for the lead up to the midnight practice.
“It was really, really fun,” Robinson said. “The kids were energetic. Honestly, it was a really good practice for the first practice of the season. Typically, Midnight Madness does go really well because it’s kind of a game-type atmosphere. You’ve got cheerleaders here and the band and so I felt like it turned out really well. There were a lot of people from the community there to support the kids.”
As far as the practice was concerned, Robinson felt like it may have been the best practice they have had since beginning Midnight Madness.
“The kids were bouncing around and having a good time,” Robinson said.
Now in his third year, Robinson said the team doesn’t have to focus on the basics as much during this part of the season.
“With coach (Bode) Grice now in his second year as offensive coordinator and playing seven-on-seven during the summer, the boys just about know everything and we’re doing pretty much the same type of stuff as we did last year,” Robinson said. “There is some basic stuff, but it’s almost like we haven’t missed a beat. We can go out there, call plays and run them and the boys know what to do. So, last night was a typical practice for us. We didn’t have to slow down and teach them how to run routes and teach them plays.”
The Indians will host a scrimmage next Thursday with Healdton and Crooked Oak beginning at 6 p.m.
