Joyce Merelene Houston

Joyce Merelene Houston, a lifelong resident of the Comanche community, entered into her Eternal Home on Monday morning, July 28, 2025. She was 92 years old. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 31st at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Duncan, with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Joyce was born May 18, 1933 in Comanche, to T.P. and Zora (Trout) Houston. She graduated from Comanche High School. She worked for many years for Hicks and Crutchers Clothing Stores, and also worked for Delbert’s Grocery Store. She and J.C. Houston were united in marriage on September 8, 1951 in Comanche. He preceded her in death in 2009. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and also loved to work. Joyce had three dogs that she loved dearly, “Paisley”, “Skyler” and “Murphy”.
Survivors include her two children: Terry Houston and wife Karen; and Cheryl Houston. Her grandson: Jay McCormick and wife Barbie; and step grandchildren Brian Webb and Karmen Farmer; her great grandchild: Claire Cox and husband Garrett ;and step grandchildren Cade Webb, Cale Webb, Callie Webb, Cailyn Webb, Gracie Webb, Nash Farmer, and Kambree Farmer; her great great grandchild, Beckett Cox, and step great-great grandchildren, Case Webb, Cole Webb, Lakelynn Webb, Kennedy Webb, and Blacklee Harris; and other family and close friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, T. P. and Zora Houston, her husband, J.C. Houston, and infant son, Larry Ray Houston, and four siblings: Truman Houston, Bill Houston, Iola Kirby, and Faye Loucks; and step grandson, Craig Webb.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Parker, Kenny Haws, Jimmy Arrington, Jason Smith, Cameron Smith, and Richie Bowen.
