Vanston headed to OSU to play in band

Makayla Vanston wasn’t even sure she was going to Oklahoma State until recently when she got an email from the Stillwater school saying she had been accepted into the band.
“I had applied to a bunch of different schools, but when I visited Oklahoma State, it felt like home,” Vanston said.
Vanston has been Comanche’s  drum major the past three seasons. Now, instead of leading a few dozen band members on the field, she will be one of roughly 300 to take the field next fall.
“This means a lot to be able to share this day with my family and friends,” Vanston said. “They are the people that supported me and are supporting me in going to the next level.”
Vanston will receive $21,000 a year between the band and academic scholarships, She also becomes the second Comanche student to sign with Oklahoma State in three years. Myracle Anthony signed with the school in 2023.
She will play clarinet in the band.
