Marlow boys down Comanche in tournament semifinals
MARLOW - A three-point surge by the host team broke open a close game as Marlow knocked off Comanche, 65-39, in the semifinals of the Stephens County Tournament on Thursday.
It looked like a runaway from the start as the Outlaws jumped out to a 9-0 lead. Following a timeout, the Indians settled down and closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 11-8 as Colby Shannon had a putback from his own missed shot at the buzzer to cut the lead to three points.
Comanche, the No. 4 seed, was still within four points with four minutes remaining in the half when Marlow, the top seed, caught fire from behind the arc. Comanche’s Easton Bowen had just knocked down a three to cut the lead to 15-11 when the Outlaws responded over the final 3:30 minutes with three treys and an old-fashioned three-point play. The lead quickly ballooned to a 15-point (27-12) advantage at the half.
The Indians were never able to make a run in the third quarter. Marlow answered every Comanche basket with at least one of their own with the Outlaws outscoring the Indians 20-16 in the quarter to take a 47-28 lead into the fourth.
Comanche will play Central High in the third-place game at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Marlow will play Velma-Alma in the championship game at 8 p.m.
