BONUS ONLINE COVERAGE: Who is S&S Consolidated?
The Comanche Indians open the football season this Friday against S&S Consolidated out of Texas, but who are the Rams?
S&S Consolidated is a school district consisting of the towns of Sadler and Southmayd. At the last census, Sadler was a town of 336 people with Southmayd having a population of 978. The middle and high schools are in Sadler with the elementary school in Southmayd.
S&S Consolidated is north of Dallas and almost due west of Sherman. It is nearly a two-hour drive (107 miles) from Comanche according to Google Maps, but it is an easy route. From Comanche, drive south on Highway 81 until you arrive at Ringgold, Texas. In Ringgold, turn east on Highway 82 and keep going until you eventually arrive in Sadler. The school is also on Highway 82.
The Rams went 0-10 in 2023, so they will enter Comanche hungry for a win. They will be under new head coach Dan Pike, who was hired during the spring. Pike came from Colleyville Heritage, a 5A school in Colleyville, Texas. He was the offensive coordinator on a team that went 12-2 in 2023.
It has been three years since S&S Consolidated has had a winning record. Last year, they averaged 8.4 points per game while giving up 40.1 points per game, according to the MaxPreps website.
"S&S is a spread team, they run a lot of traps and doubles," said Gary Robinson, Comanche head coach. "They like to throw quick screens out to the side. They've got a couple of kids that are in the backfield that are really good runners. Their running back and quarterback like to hit the edge, and if they get the edge, they can get some yardage on you."
Robinson said the key for the Indians' defense will be to keep the backs contained.
"I don't think they can beat us with the pass," Robinson said. "I think if they get any advantage on us, it'll be in the run game because those two guys can run pretty good."
Robinson said the Rams have good numbers.
"They'll bring a lot of kids and depth won't be a problem for them," Robinson said. "They're big up front on both sides of the ball and they have a little bit of speed and quickness. I think it's going to be a great game. I think we match up really well with those guys."
