Busy week for CHS baseball

The Comanche baseball team lost a doubleheader at District 3A-1 leader and Class 3A No. 1 Washington last Tuesday. The Warriors secured a pair of 13-0 wins.

In game one, Comanche was limited to three hits with Ty Lane, Payton Jones and Landon Steele getting hits with Lane doubling.

Carson Vansickle started the game on the mound and was the losing pitcher for the Indians.

Things did not get better for Comanche in game two as Cooper Dobbins picked up the lone hit for the Indians.

Comanche would fare much better at the Newcastle Festival later in the week, picking up two wins in three games.

Comanche scored four runs in the top of the first and kept up the pressure the rest of the way to pick up the win.

Comanche had five hits in the game with Kanon Clift leading the way, going 2-for-2 with a double and five RBI. Ty Lane, Colby Shannon and Landon Steele each had a hit with Shannon getting a triple.

Ty Lane was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits and two runs while walking two and striking out six.

It was a battle of the Indians with Plainview taking an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Comanche, however, answered with four runs in the bottom of the second and never trailed again.

For the second straight game, Kanon Clift drove in five runs and recorded a double while going 2-for-3. Clayton Brantner went 1-for-2 with an RBI double. Ty Lane, Cooper Dobbins, Colby Shannon, Payton Jones and Landon Steele each had hits.

Carson Vansickle was the winning pitcher, throwing three innings and giving up five hits and three earned runs.

Cooper Dobbins picked up a one-pitch save in the seventh inning. Plainview had scored three unearned runs off of relief pitcher Shannon when Comanche coach Fabian Reyes brought in the freshman with two outs and the tying run at the plate. Dobbins got the batter to pop out in foul territory to first baseman Payton Jones.

The Indians couldn’t keep pace with the Bulldogs in their final game of the festival.

Cache scored at least one run in every inning to pull away for the win.

Comanche scored in the even innings, scoring two runs in the second, three runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.

Ty Lane, Clayton Branter, Carson Vansickle, Payton Jones and Kanon Clift each had a hit for the Indians. Lane and Brantner’s hits were triples.   

Jones started the game on the mound for Comanche and was the losing pitcher.
