Indians pick up district win

The Comanche baseball team rallied twice to defeat Lexington, 6-4, to pick up a key 6-4 district win at Lexington on March 26.

The Indians were scoreless through the first five innings and trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth when they scored four runs with two outs to take the lead.

An RBI single by Payton Jones scored Ty Lane for the first run. It would be the first of four straight singles by the Indians. Jones would end up scoring on a wild pitch and Kanon Clift drove in Clayton Brantner and Carson Vansickle with a single for the final two runs of the inning.

The Tigers did come back in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs and send the game into extra innings, but Comanche was not to be denied the win.

In the top of the eighth, Brantner drove in Vansickle who had earlier walked and Landon Steele drove in Brantner with an RBI single.

Comanche coach Fabian Reyes brought in freshman Cooper Dobbins to pitch in the bottom of the eighth with two outs and the bases loaded. The freshman didn’t disappoint as he struck out the batter for the final out.

Lane, Vansickle and Brantner all had two hits in the game. Jones, Clift and Steele each had one.

Vansickle started on the mound and pitched seven innings, giving up five hits, one earned run and struck out 16. Evan Dodd started the eighth, recording two outs and walking three before Dobbins came in and shut the door.

The Indians improved to 3-1 in district play with the win. The Indians’ district game against Class 3A No. 1 Washington on Monday was canceled due to weather. Comanche was scheduled to go to Washington for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Chickasha 6, Comanche 5

The Indians nearly rallied from six runs down against the host team last Friday. After trailing the Chicks 6-0 after five innings, Comanche scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning,but Chickasha held on for the win.

Ty Lane went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored to lead Comanche at the plate, Cooper Dobbins, Colby Shannon, Carson Vansickle and Kanon Clift all had a hit in the game with Lane, Clift and Shannon picking up doubles.

Fort Cobb-Broxton 2

The Indians picked up a big win over the second-ranked team in Class B on Saturday.

After a scoreless three innings, Comanche broke through in the top of the fourth with four runs.

Fort Cobb-Broxton cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning, but the Indians would score three more runs in the top of the fifth to pull away for the win.

Ty Lane, Clayton Branter, Carson Vansickle and Kanon Clift each had a hit in a game with Clift picking up a double. Lane drove in two of the seven runs.

Landon Steele started the game for Comanche, pitching the first two innings, giving up one hit and striking out four. Colby Shannon pitched 1.2 innings giving up a hit, two walks and struck out two. Evan Dodd closed out the game by pitching the final 1.1 innings, giving up a walk and striking out two.
