Steele, Shannon lead Indians to win in home opener

Landon Steele pitched four perfect innings and Colby Shannon went 3-for-3, including a home run, to lead the Comanche Indians to a 12-2 home-opening win over Frederick last Tuesday.

Steele sat down 12 straight Bomber batters, striking out seven. Evan Dodd finished the game on the mound and gave up two runs on three hits.

Shannon finished a triple short of the cycle. He had reached in the first inning on catcher interference before knocking a two-run homer over the left-field wall in the bottom of the third. He added a double in the bottom of the fourth. He drove in three runs and scored four times for the game.

Shannon was not the only star on offense for the day. The Indians belted out 15 hits in the contest with 10 players getting at least one hit. Clayton Brantner also went 3-for-3 for Comanche. Ty Lane added a pair of hits. Payton Jones led the team with four RBI.

Jones, Steele, Carson Vansickle, Cooper Dobbins and Kaison Votruba had one hit each.

Comanche scored at least two runs in every inning except the second when they were held scoreless. Comanche had scored two runs each in the first, fourth and fifth inning and had three runs in the third and sixth inning.

Latta 13, Comanche 1

The Indians could not keep the offense going on the road two days later at Latta.

Comanche was limited to two hits as the Panthers mercy-ruled the Indians in four innings after enjoying big innings in the second and third.

Latta scored two runs in the first to take the lead and then added five in the second and six in the third.

Comanche’s lone run came in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly to center field by Ty Lane that scored Carson Vansickle from third.

Lane and Cooper Dobbins had the only hits for the Indians. Dobbins had a double in the second inning.

Three pitchers took the mound for Comanche with Landon Steele starting and getting the loss after given up four runs on three hits. Colby Shannon and Cooper Dobbins each pitched one inning.

The Indians dropped to 2-1 on the season with the loss. Comanche was scheduled to host Walters on Tuesday. They are scheduled to play Dibble at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Thursday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Marlow on Saturday at noon. The next scheduled home game is March 25 in a district game against Lexington.
