Basketball swept by Purcell
Both the Lady Indians and Indians came up short in their conference games against Purcell last Friday night. Both Comanche teams played hard, but the visitors were able to get the wins.
Lady Dragons 60
Lady Indians 30
The game could not have started out much better for Comanche against Class 4A No. 15 Purcell. The Lady Indians hit their first three shots, including three-pointers by Jentry Whaley and Karsynn Bowles to grab an early lead, but Purcell found its defensive footing and was able to turn the tide.
Comanche had a 6-2 lead two minutes into the opening quarter. The Lady Indians then held an 8-7 lead with under five minutes to go but the Lady Dragons got their offensive game going and their defense tightened down and they closed out the first quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Indians were not able to respond. Purcell outscored Comanche 21-5 in the second quarter to take a 36-13 halftime lead as the Lady Dragons cut off the Lady Indians’ passing lanes, leading to turnovers. Kamrey Rendon’s three-pointer at the 7:02 mark cut the Purcell lead to six points, but the Lady Indians would get no closer the rest of the way.
Purcell put the game away with a 14-9 advantage in the third quarter.

After a back-and-forth battle through most of the first quarter, Purcell grabbed the lead for the last time of the night with under three minutes to go in the first quarter and the Indians were never able to catch back up.
Comanche had a few runs in the final three quarters to get close, but Purcell would answer to pull further ahead. Most of that credit went to the Dragons’ Kobe Freeman, who kept his team out front with his play on his way to a 24-point performance a week after he nearly set a school record for points in a single game with 50 points playing in the Heart of Oklahoma Tournament.
The Indians and the Dragons had four lead changes and three ties in the first quarter before Purcell would take the lead for good.
Purcell led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Comanche 18-7 in the second quarter, which turned the tide heavily in favor of the Dragons.
The Indians kept pace with the Dragons in the second half. They opened the third on a 8-2 run, but Purcell managed to stay ahead.
In the fourth quarter, Comanche got within five points as Myles Ellis opened the quarter with a three-pointer to cut the lead to 45-40. That was followed by a 7-0 run by the Dragons. The Indians made one final push, cutting the lead to 52-48 with 2:12 left in the game, but Comanche shooting went cold and the Indians would not score in the final two minutes, allowing the Dragons to pull away for the win.
