Slovak signs with USAO

Twenty-two years after her mother, Kristan Slovak, signed a softball scholarship with USAO, Mykayla Slovak signed on the dotted line with the Drovers last Wednesday.
It was a big step for Slovak who just a few months ago as the softball season wound down had said she wasn’t sure she was even going to try to play at the next level.
“I noticed that I missed it a lot,” Slovak said. “I’ve played softball my whole life. So, I started to go on visits and I fell in love with the coaching staff and the whole program at USAO. I loved the people there and the team. Everyone was so nice and it’s not too far away from home.”
Slovak spent most of her high school career behind the plate where she became a standout catcher who accumulated numerous awards along the way.
This past year, however, new Comanche coach Jen White needed a shortstop, so Slovak did what was best for the team and she proved more than capable to fill in at the important infield spot as she garnered first team All-District honors as a utility player.
She is slated to get back behind the plate in college.
“I just love playing it,” Slovak said. “It gives me a feeling of peace and I can relax and just play and quit thinking about everything.”
University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma head coach Jayden Wallace was in attendance at the signing and was more than happy to be getting the second generation Drover.
“I’m so excited,” Wallace said. “Mykayla has worked hard her whole life and with her being the next generation of Drovers with her mom and dad both playing at USAO as well. She’s coming into a top five program in the entire country with us. She’s going to come in and make a huge impact for us and take us to that next level that we want which is another national championship.”
There were several qualities of Slovak which excites the coach about her future at USAO.
“She is first of all a great athlete and second, she’s just a great communicator,” Wallace said. “She’s a good student. She is the true package of what a Drover is in my opinion. She comes from a good family with good values and that’s what I’m excited about.”
