Comanche-Empire District Fair coming soon

Area residents will get their opportunity to show off the great work at home, the garden, the barn and other places from the past year at the Comanche-Empire District Fair slated for Aug. 11-12.

All non-livestock entries can be seen at the Patterson Ave. Baptist Church youth building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 11. The livestock show begins at 8 a.m. at the Comanche agriculture complex on Aug. 12.

Entries for the non-livestock show will be from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Aug. 11.

Non-livestock entries are in the cateogries of horticulture, crops, fruits and vegetables, textiles, clothing, crafts and photograph, baked goods and canning, 4-H exhibits and flower show.

The “Best of the Best” award is sponosred by the Oak College OHCE. A ribbon for the “Best of Show” in the flower show will be awarded to both adult and junior (18 years and younger) divisions.

The livestock show order will be cattle, swine, sheep and goats.

Beef cattle classes include bulls, cows (over one year) and heifers (under one year). Swine classes include gilt (jr), gilt (sr.) and market barrows. Classes to be shown include: Berkshire, Chester White, Durock, Hampshire, Poland China, Spots, Yorkshire, Cross.

Sheep classes include: Southdown, Suffolk, Hamphire, Shrophire, Dorset and Cross. They will be divided into rams, ewes (under one year), ewes (over one year) and market lambs.

Goat classes include: Nubians, Crossbreeds, Pygmy, Angora and all other purebreds. Goat classes will be dvided to the number of entries.

Comanche-Empire District Fair books are available at several locations around town, including Delbert’s and Thompson’s Pharmacy.
