Annie Lorene Barnett

Annie Lorene Barnett, a lifelong resident of this area, peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, July 6, 2023, in Duncan. She was 106 years old. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 13 at 10 a.m. at Ray of Hope Church, with Pastor Mike McCord officiating, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Viewing begins Wednesday at 10 a.m., and visitation will be Wednesday, July 12 from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Annie was born on Jan. 10, 1917, in Walters to James W. and Martha Jane (Petty) Riddles. She and Frank “Pete” Barnett were united in marriage on Sept. 15, 1932. She was an active member of Ray of Hope. Annie was a loving wife and mother. She loved all of her family dearly. Her hobbies included working in her flower bed, gardening, quilting and sewing, and cooking.

She is survived by two daughters: Earlene Payne and husband Daniel; and Patricia Whaley and husband Terry; five grandchildren: Terresa Stanley, Terry Whaley Jr, Tony Whaley, Danna White, and Lee Ann Rhodes; also 13 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Martha Riddles; her husband, Pete Barnett; her brothers and sisters: R.B. Riddles, Roy Riddles, Zadie McCord, Rachel Whitlock, Virgie Rice, and Ruby Riddles.
