Betty Kathryn Ferguson
Betty Kathryn (Blackwell) Ferguson was born October 30, 1946 in Ada to Earnest Wiley (Bill) and Eula Elizabeth (Smith) Blackwell. She passed away on Saturday evening, April 8, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Betty graduated from Latta High School in 1964 and from East Central State College in 1968. After graduating, she moved to Comanche. This is where she met and fell in love with her husband, Jimmy. They were married in Wichita Falls, Texas, on May 29, 1971.
Betty taught everything from basketball, to business, to math, to computers in her 32 year teaching career at Comanche High School and loved every minute of it. Each student was special to her in their own way and she always went above and beyond to see her students succeed.
After retiring from Comanche High School, Betty enjoyed volunteering at Christian Helping Hands doing their bookkeeping and always took pride in making sure the books balanced to the penny.
Betty’s greatest accomplishment was accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12. She lived her life sharing God’s love to whoever she could. She was also proud of raising three beautiful children (Shawn, Kerri and Kristi) who are also proud Christians. She was a true Proverbs 31 wife, mother and grandmother. She loved the time she spent as a pastor’s wife. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren dearly. She always sacrificed and did whatever it took to make sure her family was loved and well taken care of.
Betty was a member of Countryside Baptist Church.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Eula Blackwell and one brother, Austin Blackwell.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy, of the home; one son Shawn Ferguson and wife Jamie of Haskell, Texas; two daughters, Kerri Austin and her husband Brandon and Kristi Thompson and her husband Logan, all of Comanche; two brothers Robert D. (Bob) Blackwell and wife Phyllis of Oklahoma City and Tom Blackwell and wife Sharon of Ada; four grandchildren, Kenna, Jaycee and Grant Ferguson of Haskell, Texas, and Isaac Thompson of Comanche.
Funeral services will be held at Countryside Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 12, at 2 p.m., with interment at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, Noon - 7 p.m., with the family there from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christian Helping Hands, Countryside Baptist Church, Chisholm Trail Hospice or your favorite charity.
