Indians pick up district wins against Davis, Lindsay

by Todd Brooks

The Comanche Indians had a busy week with district games and a tournament that turned into a festival thanks to some inclement weather.

Last Tuesday, the Indians completed their sweep of Davis with a 6-2 home win. They followed it up by going 1-1 at the Marlow Festival and then started this week off with an 11-9 district win over Lindsay on Monday.

The Indians (12-5) were undefeated in district play heading into Tuesday’s home game against Lindsay.

A day after the offenses were hot in a battle between the two teams, pitching took over on the second day.

Comanche trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when senior Brady Dobbins blasted a three-run home run to put his team ahead. Kooper Doucet and Ian Essex than added an RBI to make it a five-run inning and give the Indians some breathing room.

Dobbins had picked up a first-inning RBI to make a total of four RBI for the game as he went 1-for-3. Essex was the only player to get at least two hits as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Gabe Diaz, Payton Jones and Kanon Clift all had hits.

Diaz picked up the win on the mound as he threw a complete game. He gave up five hits, an earned run, a walk and struck out eight.

The game was supposed to take place Thursday in Marlow, but rain caused a postponement until Friday where the schedule had to be re-arranged so that teams could only play two games.

Elgin scored four runs each in the first, third and fourth innings. They had nine hits and took advantage of four Comanche errors.

Comanche had two hits in the game with Ian Essex getting both, including a triple.

Brady Dobbins took the loss on the mound.

Comanche added another run in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 11-7.
