City receives grant towards sidewalks
A plan three years in the making is finally starting to come to fruition as the city has secured a large grant that will go a long way in making sidewalk restoration a reality.
“Anyone that has visited Comanche can testify as to the poor condition of our sidewalks,” city manager Chuck Ralls said on Facebook. “For the past three years the city council and I have been working to find funds to restore them. with an estimated cost of $921,000 the task seems near impossible.” Tuesday, Mayor Smokey Dobbins and Ralls attended a meeting in Oklahoma City where they were awarded a grant for $689,000.
“This leaves us a little short of our goal but we are still working to get the remaining funds through a couple of other grants,” Ralls said. “I want to thank Mayor Dobbins and the council members that have worked diligently to make this a reality. I also want to thank those in the community that provided input and wrote letters of support which assisted in the award.” With the project now in the works, Ralls said he will keep everyone posted as things progress.
