“It isn’t easy growing up the daughter of the town’s Baptist preacher and also the town’s police chief,” Judy Blair Tidwell shared with The Times in a sit down interview this week. Judy moved to Comanche in June of 1965 when her dad was called to preach at the Comanche Free Will Baptist Church. “It was at 6th and Wilson and has been torn down for quite a few years now,” Judy said. Beryl “Preach” Blair was ordained as a Freewill Baptist Minister in June of 1955, first serving as a pastor in California.
“Then we moved to Norman, then to Santa Fe (Velma) where dad pastored at Santa Fe Baptist Church before coming to Comanche. “Dad knew some people that had the cleaners over here. He knew them because they had a route over there at Santa Fe and dad got acquainted with them. They asked dad to come over here and try for this church and he did.
