Gerald Wayne Gilland

Gerald Wayne Gilland, known to all as Wayne, peacefully passed away on April 22, 2024 at Duncan Regional Hospital, at the age of 77. A family gathering will take place on Thursday evening, April 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Comanche Funeral Home, where friends will share memories of Wayne. A burial will take place on Friday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at Fairlawn Cemetery, with full military honors from the Stephens County Combined Honor Guard.

Wayne was born Dec. 23, 1946 in Sparks Hill, Ill., to Jessie and Veda (Payne) Gilland. He was a graduate of Comanche High School. After his graduation Wayne joined the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country for more than 23 years. He and Susan Dunklin were united in marriage on March 22, 1968 in Fort Worth, Texas. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Wayne worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years. He loved to fish, tinker with various projects, he was a jack of all trades. Wayne was a friend to everybody.

Survivors include his wife Susan, of the home; a son Byron Gilland and wife Donna, Comanche; four grandchildren: Edward, Adoria, Ariana, and Joey; a brother, George Gilland and wife Pat; and other relatives and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Gloria Parkhurst, and two brothers: Bill and Jessie Gilland.
