Richard Gerald Wells

March 27, 2024

Richard Gerald Wells, a devoted man of God and longtime resident of Hastings, left this world unexpectedly on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the age of 85. His passing has left a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A funeral service to honor his life will take place on Saturday, March 30, at noon at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, presided over by Bro. Dan Standifer, with Comanche Funeral Home overseeing the arrangements. The final resting place will be at Comanche Cemetery, following the service. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the viewing at the church on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. and to fellowship at lunch beginning at 11 a.m.

Born on Nov. 5, 1938, in San Bernadino, Calif., Richard dedicated a chapter of his life to serving his country in the US Navy. His union with Sarah Cedella Miller began on April 17, 1971, in Las Vegas. They shared an enduring love that spanned almost 53 wonderful years. Richard found joy in woodworking, with a particular passion and talent for wood carving. Whether he was casting a line while fishing, singing hymns in his beautiful baritone, or delving into the pages of his Bible, Richard's faith and hobbies enriched his days. His presence at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church was a welcome pillar of strength and devotion.

Richard leaves behind a legacy cherished by his beloved wife, Sarah, and their loyal canine companion, "Baby," at their home. His memory will be carried on by his children: Jeffery Wells of California, Frederick Miller and wife Debbie of Washington, Susan Stone and husband Paul of Utah, and Patricia Farley and husband John of Arkansas. He is survived by his brother, Robert Wells, and wife Carol of California, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

His spirit now reunites with his mother, Pearl Wells, and three children who went before him: Gerald Wells, James Wells, and Daniella Brumett. Together, they watch over those who hold dear the memory of a remarkable man.

Expressions of sympathy and shared memories can be sent to comanchefh@pldi.net to honor Richard Gerald Wells, a man who touched the lives of many with his kindness, faith, and unwavering love.
